By working together, industry and government are creating an environment for stimulating innovation and collaboration which is leading to export growth
The DGP is delivering through a number of key elements: the UK Defence Solutions Centre (UKDSC) and the strengthened – Department for International Trade Defence and Security Organisation (DIT s-DSO), as well as the Industry led Skills and Value Chain Competitiveness Groups.
- The Steering Committee of the DGP includes representatives from government and industry including an SME representative. This Committee is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the DGP, working alongside BEIS, s-DSO, MoD and wider stakeholders in the defence industry landscape to agree the best way forward for achieving a secure and thriving UK defence sector.
- The UK Defence Solutions Centre (UKDSC) was established as a new collaborative working environment to promote innovation and investment in the defence sector, identifying innovative and tailored solutions to meet the needs of customers and determining road maps to guide future investment decisions and improve competitiveness.
- The Strengthened DIT – Defence and Security Organisation (DIT s-DSO) has been fortified by industry secondees to focus on and prioritise the needs of customers around the globe in the short, medium and long-term, working closely with the UKDSC. S-DSO is the connection point with overseas customers bringing together the UK value chain in a Team UK approach.
- The Value Chain and Skills Groups are part of the DGP’s commitment to strengthening industry’s capabilities and are focused on activities which develop and invest in the skills, companies and technologies which underpin the innovation and growth in our sector.
Stronger cooperation between industry and government is the key to successful growth for the industry. Only through working together will we achieve the competitive advantage, the innovation and the strong international focus required to succeed in the global market. The DGP is creating the structures needed to deliver this new way of doing business. It brings government and industry together at the highest level, and broadens engagement across the vast range of organisations that contribute to this vibrant sector – from Prime Contractors to SMEs to Academia.
